MRS FUBBS AT HESTIA'S COMING OUT PARTY

The community spirit came alive at this unique festival, an unforgettable experience, that celebrated the power of creativity, connection, and collective expression. This extraordinary event took place at the Quip and Curiosity gallery, a space that echoes the eclectic and innovative spirit of the artists involved.

Mrs Fubbs was proud to be part of the festival and collaborate with the vibrant artists of Hestia the new queer-led DIY creative community based in Cambridge UK and look forward to more collaborations.

Inhabiting the front room of the gallery, we invited people to join us and immerse themselves in a world of diverse expression. Our vision of style and beauty was brought to life in our films. We captivated festivalgoers with visually stunning narratives, as well as ASMR(autonomous sensory meridian response) experiences. Our installations, essential to the experience, provided a tactile and interactive dimension, inviting viewers to engage, inhabit, and even adorn themselves with our artwork.

Follow us @mrsfubbs don’t miss the opportunity to be part of our next dynamic artistic celebration.

FRONT BOTTOMS AT STRAWBERRY FAIR

Every summer, Cambridge is host to Strawberry Fair, Europe's biggest free, one day festival. In collaboration with artists; Carmela Arbelaez-McCarthy, Cathy Dunbar and Helen Judge we took Front Bottoms at Mrs.Fubbs' Parlour to the Strawberry Fair Arts Area. This was euphemism on a grand scale, we dressed up, shared tea and dainties such as Little Shrimp and Split Baps and discussed the female form, from a feminist perspective, with over two hundred guests.

INTRODUCING MRS FUBBS PARLOUR

We are an artist collective that stage playful, interactive events to disrupt. Making works in painting, sculpture, electronics, performance, fashion and video, as Mrs Fubbs' Parlour we apply our skills in celebration of the deviant body. It could be said with our Mrs Fubbs' collection we push the limits of good fashion taste. Our work as do our bodies have lumps and bumps, bulk and volume in unusual places. In Mrs Fubbs' Parlour we set out to celebrate this. We know we are breaking the iron rule of contemporary fashion that demands a slim, perfect body but we are deliberately provocative. We want to demonstrate how our unexpected shapes have interesting sculptural effect, at the same time in Mrs Fubbs' Parlour we create a space for people to experiment with our collection and liberate themselves from the eternally perfect fashion body

JANE HELLINGS

Socially engaged artist/curator Jane Hellings attempts, with varying degrees of success, to eradicate hierarchy from her practice. She chooses, in preference to a dedicated studio space, to work from home where her making is immersed in day to day domestic disorder. Hellings' processes are; low-tech, everyday, non-specialist, her materials, rarely purchased from specialist art suppliers, are predominantly recycled and re-purposed. She frequently shows work outside the conventional gallery space and often works collaboratively.

CATHY DUNBAR

For over 30 years I worked as a self taught designer and dressmaker to the Cambridge intelligentsia, operating a sliding scale so that everyone could realise their dream outfit. After taking a degree in The Study of Art at ARU (APU), I re-discovered making art, as a joyful and healing process. Since then I have collaborated with many other artists, been involved in and instigated numerous art projects around Cambridge and, at every opportunity, encouraged the general public to find their creative spot. I am a founder member of The ‘Freudian Slips’, a safe space for women to realise their creativity and to perform and co-founder of the 'Society of Xtras' with Helen Judge and for six years, I co-ordinated the Arts Area (Eastern Bloco) at Cambridge Strawberry Fair. I am a socially engaged artist, a feminist and activist, influenced by the condition of humans and our engagement with each other and the planet.

MISS FROU-FROU

Miss Frou-frou's artistic journey delves into the realm of social beliefs, pervasive conditioning, and the ever-influential world of social media intertwined with platforms like YouTube. Over an extended period, her work has been a profound exploration of power dynamics, inequality, class, gender issues, and consumerism both within the art world and society at large. Finding inspiration in the nuances of everyday life, global affairs, trauma studies, and her own struggles with mental health, Miss Frou-frou instinctively reacts through her art, offering captivating creations that prompt contemplation about how society imprints restrictive beliefs upon our way of thinking. Through a masterful blend of imagery and materials, she embarks on a daring journey of investigation and challenge, inviting her audience to confront these deeply ingrained notions. Objects, mixed imagery, performances, and videos serve as the mediums through which she skillfully exposes the impact of conditioning and the persuasive force of social media, including platforms like YouTube. In the embrace of Miss Frou-frou's art, according to chat GPT: “ humor and playfulness intertwine with profound inquiry, guiding us on a transformative voyage of enlightenment. Through this whimsical and insightful lens, we are prompted to break free from the confines of limiting beliefs and embrace the delightful dance of life's complexities with newfound joy and understanding”. (doesn’t it sound good?) ;-)

HELEN JUDGE

In 2007 I completed an MA in Fine Art at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, London. I have always been interested in visual art and make work in a variety of media. After my MA I really got a passion for experimental film and animation, actually, anything involving the moving image. Over the years I have worked collaboratively and on individual projects across a variety of media including performance, sculpture, film and art happenings. Some of this work can be found on my website The Society of Xtras In my most recent work I have been using java script to make digital collages that move. I like experimenting with and dissecting the glossy aesthetics of advertising. religious images and screen icons. This work can be found on my web sites xsif.com and helenmjudge.com
